lumber for the orphanage

Gachoka is a very small rural area of Mbeere in sub-Sahara, Kenya. It is a 20-minute drive from the small, but active, city of Embu, which is located 2 hours northeast of Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. The people of Gachoka are friendly and easy-going and have a deep faith in God. They speak their own tribal language called Kimbeere. The people of Embu also have their own tribal language called Kiembu. There are 49 different tribes in Kenya and 61 tribal languages. Although Gachoka is filled with smiling faces, there is absolutely no industry there, making it very difficult for the people to find work. Selling the produce from their small farms is their only means of livelihood. Some do choose to work in Embu, but jobs are scarce there as well.

We were blessed to find eleven acres of land located on the only paved road in the area. It is a perfect site for our orphanage, for many reasons. It will be easy for the children to walk to school because of the pavement and the proximity of two good schools; electricity is within reach; and the water pipes have just reached Gachoka from the city. Most of Mbeere is without water or electricity, but we have, by the Grace of God, found a unique piece of 11 acres of land with easy access to both. Another asset is the nearby dispensary run by Catholic Sisters of Mercy. Now that we have put a fence around the entire 11 acres, we are ready to build.
