All of us at OASIS cannot wait to see more children running around this compound. The original vision included one big house and 10 cottages with 10 orphans in each. That means that the vision will not be complete until there are 120 orphans living here. We need to begin to build soon, and by faith, we shall begin the foundation soon.
God has led us to the second worst slum in Africa, a place called Kibera. We have already hired a missionary to stay in Kibera for three days a week seeking the most needy orphans that he can find for us to lift out of poverty. He is a called Reverend Elias….a gentle and loving servant of God. Rev. Elias will be in Kibera visiting the desperately poor and depressed people who live in mud huts with no rubbish pick up and no toilets. There are one million squatters living in Kibera and they must defecate into plastic bags and throw them out into the 3-foot- wide street where people walk. There is no place to put one's foot down except into a puddle of filth. Consequently, the foul odor of human waste and years of piled garbage make it impossible to take a deep breath without getting sick to one's stomach. There are 50,000 orphans running loose in those filthy streets with no adults to care for them.
We will be looking for people to sponsor the children who will remain in the slum while others will actually move into our next cottage. Sponsoring a child who remains in the slum will cost $10/month for just for the food that Rev. Elias will bring to them from their sponsors. I will send out a picture of our first 10 in-slum orphans who can be sponsored for $10/month... or if the sponsor wants to add another $10/month, that would take care of other necessities.
Below is a photograph of children playing barefoot in the Kibera slum in Nairobi.
Lovingly,
Gigi (Virginia) Founder and Director of OASIS OF PEACE VILLAGE, Kenya, Africa.
